Students, guests-artists, and guests usually all stay together as a group at the Elisabethpark Hotel, which has become a second home for many who have returned to the festival. The atmosphere has helped create and maintain not only professional, but more personal relationships. We have many leisure activities planned for participants and guests to bond, such as hiking, horse-carriage ride to the Passau National Park, visiting Austrian holiday celebrations, local festivals and, even a real 19-century style ball-room dancing evening with the Strauss orchestra led by Maestro Pauss from Salzburg, playing waltzes, polkas, marches etc One of the highlights excursion to Salzburg, where we annually attend a concert at the legendary Salzburg Music Festival, past examples of which have been Sokolov, Barenboim, Vienna Philharmonica, among many others. Not one member of our group leaves the performance without feeling a sense of wonder and inspiration. This year, we will attend the Wien Philharmonia led by Salonen and Muti; a solo performance by Sokolov, Kissin; and rarely staged Monteverdi’s L’Incironazzione di Poppea.
After specially structured blocks of practicing and performing, both professors and students take time to relax and explore the magnificent beauty of Bad Gastein and its surrounding area. Here are some activities that the attendees have enjoyed in the past:
- Excursion to Salzburg
- Attending selected performances during renowned Salzburg International Music Festival
- Half-day hiking trip
- Horse-carriage ride to the Passau National Park
- Visiting Austrian holiday celebrations, local festivals and, even a real 19-century style ball-room dancing evening with the orchestra from Salzburg, playing waltzes, polkas, marches etc
Keeping in close contact with the Bureau of Tourism, this is a great learning opportunity to know more about people, their local traditions, music, food, dancing as well as the social activities.
